THE ART COLLECTIVE FROM THE REGION, ART ĆAKULA (ART TALKS), IS COMING TO RIJEKA AFTER ITS SUCCESSFUL EXHIBITION IN ŠIBENIK: “TALKS WITH MYSELF” AT JURAJ KLOVIĆ GALLERY, HDLU RIJEKA
“Talks with Myself,” the second joint exhibition, will open at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at Juraj Klović Gallery in Rijeka. The Art ćakula (https://artcakula.net/) is a cultural platform initiated by Ivana Egić, an artist who originated from Rijeka and currently residing in Sweden. . The Art ćakula presented all its content through new media: the Zoom platform, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and the website. It was started during the pandemic when all artistic events were cancelled due to extraordinary circumstances. The profound necessity for recovery has inspired us to contemplate the significance, essence, and strength of all the practises and mechanisms of resilience and renewal that we encounter in our existence. Consequently, Art ćakula initiated a novel approach to showcasing artists and artwork tailored to meet the needs of 21st-century people. Every other week, it produces fresh cultural and educational material, which it promotes to the public through virtual events and exhibitions. The meetings include the exchange of experiences and knowledge, the presentation of individual artistic approaches, artistic colonies, websites, PR tools, and discussions about current events in art and the problems that artists face in their profession. It can be said that Art ćakula has developed into a high-quality and exceedingly significant artistic movement. Until now, it covers the 72nd episode and provides a comprehensive portrayal of the position of culture and art not merely in Croatia but also in the region.
At the exhibition in Rijeka, 19 artists and members of Art ćakula will exhibit their work: Vesna Opavsky, Leonardo Budimlić Majnarić, Lea Čeč, Kristina Kinkela Valčić, Ivana Egić, Gloria Sellan, Dora Vukičević Hellström, Koraljka Jukić, Matilda Muller, Boris Roce, Ivana Kutuzović, Snjezana Pokos Vujec, Ana Hanzel, Borislav Božić, Ljubica Lovrenčić, Nina Lekić, Valentina Ilijevska, Sanja Pribić, Jasna Opavsky. The curator and member of Art ćakula, Romana Tekić, highlighted in the exhibition catalogue’s foreword: “Nineteen seemingly different poetics and creative expressive possibilities are presented mostly with recent works, which is an indication of the continuity of their desire and passion for artistic activity and creative exceptional works. All of them, seemingly different, form a unique but dynamic whole of this exhibition, which celebrates the spirit of the totality of this artistic group, both three-dimensional objects and paintings, as well as multimedia works”.
Along with the exhibition, an accompanying programme that communicates with the audience is planned: “Art ćakula Live,” as part of the opening with the active participation of the audience.
The exhibition is open until August 22nd 2023.
